After the First World War, a new wave of immigrants arrived in Canada, resulting in an increase in the nation’s Ukrainian population. This increase was enough to warrant the establishment of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada, and thus this church in Brandon. Prior to the building of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Ghost, Brandon’s Ukrainian congregation worshipped at the Greek Cathedral, which was located at 1stSt. and Lorne Ave. In 1924, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Ghost was built by volunteer labour, and the congregation moved to this site.

The church is built in the typical style of Ukrainian Churches, which is heavily influenced by the architecture of ancient Rome, Syria, and Istanbul. The location of the three domes (or cupolas) is representative of the Holy Trinity, with the centre cupola symbolizing Jesus Christ. Decorative features include stained glass windows and dentils on the roof trimming.
