This Chicago-style commercial building was designed in 1905 by architect W.N. Lailey. It features brick corbelling, pilasters, and a decorative cornice. The roof trimming features decorative moulding and a pendant.
The sign for the building’s original business, Campbell & Campbell, is still visible on the eastern exterior wall. Campbell & Campbell was a furniture store which also offered undertaking services. After a horrific train collision on January 13, 1916, bodies were taken here for undertaking. In 1927, the partnership between Campbell and Campbell ended, and the company became Campbell, Fergusson & Wright. The business continued to operate until 1935. After it closed, the building sat vacant for nearly ten years.
