The Victorian Cottage at 258 2nd Street was built in 1899. The design offers such details as palladian windows, bevelled glass windows, and an open verandah supported by columns. The gable roof is trimmed with a decorative gable, decorative shingle belt, and elegant bargeboard and moulding detail. The home’s longest-staying owner was the Kirk family. David Kirk, a CPR engineer, resided at the address from 1921 to 1973. David’s wife May stayed at the address for another seven years following her husband’s death.
