As part of the updated Heritage Conservation By-law, the City of Brandon created a new category of sites called “Commemorative Sites”. A site will be classified as a Municipal Commemorative Site if:

  • A site is determined to have some heritage value, but not enough to recommend designation, or
  • A site is not successfully designated as a Municipal Heritage Site

This category exists only to encourage heritage conservation and to identify and keep records of sites with some heritage value. There are no legal protections or obligations on a Municipal Commemorative Site or its owners. A Municipal Commemorative Site does not qualify for the Municipal Heritage Incentive Program.
