The City of Brandon is reviewing the Municipal Heritage Incentive Program to ensure it remains effective in promoting conservation of Municipal Heritage Sites in our community. The Municipal Heritage Incentive Program in its current form first came into existence in 2017. We will provide updates to the project on this page.
Phase 1 Engagement Underway
The City of Brandon has begun Phase 1 Engagement for the 2025 Municipal Heritage Incentive Program Review Project. The purpose of this phase of engagement is to better understand from our customers’ perspective what they currently believe is working or requires change with respect to the Municipal Heritage Incentive Program.
Though the City is primarily seeking feedback from owners of current Municipal Heritage Sites and owners of properties interested in seeking Municipal Heritage Site designation for their own properties, the questionnaire is open to all citizens and property owners of Brandon.
For those who are unable to complete the questionnaire online, or wish to complete the questionnaire in person, by phone, or e-mail, you may contact Andrew Mok, Senior Planner, Planning & Buildings Department, at 204-729-2115 or
The Phase 1 Engagement period will run until Friday, June 27, 2025.
What is the Municipal Heritage Incentive Program?
It is a financial incentive, through an exemption of ordinary municipal property taxes, offsetting a portion of costs associated with conservation of Municipal Heritage Sites in Brandon. Visit this page for more information.
Why is there a review of the program now?
The program has been in existence since 2017, and, since its current inception, there have been no changes made to the program, nor any assessment made to confirm how effective the program has been in promoting local heritage conservation.
What parts of the program are being reviewed?
All parts of the program will be subject to this review, including but not limited to program eligibility criteria, how we process applications, and degree of financial incentives under the program.
I already own a Municipal Heritage Site and wish to apply for the program. Will this review affect my ability to apply?
The review will not affect your ability to apply for the program, as the program and its current parameters continue to exist. The City will inform you of changes to the program if it has an impact to your application that is already underway.
My property is not a Municipal Heritage Site, but I am interested in obtaining designation and applying for the Municipal Heritage Incentive Program. What can I do?
There is a process to designate a property as a Municipal Heritage Site, which includes an assessment of the property by the Brandon Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee and City Council’s adoption of a designation by-law.
