This Italianate-style store was built in 1909. It was originally occupied by Watts Grocery under proprietor William Watts.  Between 1911 and 1977, over six different grocers passed through 1608 Princess Avenue. In 1977, the building was sold to Murray Hurl, who established Hurl’s Food Mart at this location. The business still operates here today. The building retains its original moulded cornice. In recent years, the storefront has been refurbished, giving the building a more historic look, akin to what the original Watt’s Grocery may have looked like.
