The original portion of this building was constructed during Brandon's first decade of settlement for Thomas Mayne Daly, who was sworn in as Brandon's first mayor. The architect firm for the building was McCoskie & Co. The Daly House features some Georgian characteristics such as a steeply pitched roof, hipped dormers, a facade divided into an odd number of bays, and moulding detail on dormers and under the eaves. The Italianate features include segmental windows with decorative voussoirs and sills, a bay window, a decorative brick belt, and brick corbelling. The building also housed "The Maples" orphanage which was operated by the City of Brandon fromthe 1920s to the mid-1960s.
