This Italianate-style home was constructed in 1899. It features the Italianate style’s distinguishing characteristic: a truncated roof trimmed with wide eaves, brackets, and dentils. The exterior also boasts an enclosed porch and canted bay windows. The home’s windows are accented by side lights and transom lights. The main entrance is sheltered by a small open porch decorated with columns, carving detail, and a pediment.

The home’s earliest known owner (if not the original) is merchant John A. McDonald. McDonald and his business partner, Frank Calvert, operated a successful men’s clothing business. The partnership was established in 1892 and lasted until Calvert’s retirement in 1911. McDonald then gained sole ownership of the business, which would operate for over sixty years.
