Doors Open will be offering five guided tours this year!

Historical Walking Tour

The "Brandon Ghetto" walking tour is back by popular demand from Doors Open 2014! Take a walk through time with local history buff, David McConkey, as he shares stories about Brandon's North End in the early 1900s. See the century-old buildings unique to the neighbourhood, and learn about the lives of those who lived on this side of the tracks.

Historical walking tours will take place from 1:00-2:00pm and 3:00-4:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Please meet at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Ghost (59 11th Street North) 15 minutes before the tour starts.

Nature Walk

Join naturalist David Barnes on a guided tour of Brandon's vibrant natural history at the Assiniboine Food Forest Inc. (AFFI)! Explore the diverse and stunning ecosystems along the Assiniboine River, including wetlands and ancient oak woods, and wander through the AFFI's beautiful orchards and gardens. All ages are welcome to participate in this exciting interactive tour! Please note that the trails are not wheelchair accessible, and include some minor mobility challenges.

Nature walks will take place from 3:00-4:00pm both Saturday and Sunday, and will depart from Crow's General Store (33 17th Street East).

Fire Hall Tours

Head to the Brandon Fire Hall to learn more about the fascinating history of the Brandon Fire Department. Catch a glimpse into the lives of our courageous firefighters and paramedics as they guide you through a tour of the facility, and learn about the brave men and women who came before them through a tour of the department's museum. Get a chance to see the equipment used today and compare it with the technology of the 1900s. This educational tour is fun for the whole family!

Fire Hall tours will start at 1:30, 2:30, 3:30, and 4:30pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Water Treatment Facility Tours

See first-hand how our delicious drinking water is transformed from the Assiniboine River to your taps through a tour of the Water Treatment Facility. Learn from the knowledgeable guides about the process of purifying the city's water, and have the chance to interact with the people who work hard to make sure that our drinking water is clean and safe!

Water Treatment Plant tours will take place from 2:00-3:00pm both Saturday and Sunday. There is a limit of 20 people on each tour, so please pre-register by calling (204) 729-7797.

Observatory Tours

Climb up to one of the highest accessible points in Brandon, and take in the bird's eye view of the city from the top of McMaster Hall. Partake in a solar observing with the help of a volunteer with the Brandon University Astronomical Observatory!

Observatory tours will start at 1:00, 1:45, 2:30, and 3:15 on SATURDAY ONLY. There is a limit of 30 people on each tour, so please pre-register by calling (204) 729-7797.
